NATO formally blames Nordstream pipeline damage on 'sabotage' - but won't say who carried it out

The head of the North American Treaty Organization (NATO) has formally blamed damage done to a pair of Russian-owned natural gas pipelines on "sabotage," though an increasing number of analysts believe that the organization's most powerful member -- the United States -- was responsible. "The statement, from the North Atlantic Council, the decision-making body of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, didn’t provide details or evidence," The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday after the statement was released. "It also noted that the damage to the pipelines occurred in international waters. But it marks the first time the alliance has formally warned that it would deter and defend against attacks on its members’ critical infrastructure following the now four documented leaks in the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines," the WSJ reported further. Separately on Twitter, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg wrote that the damage to the pipelines is of "deep concern" to the alliance, while also threatening a response if any Western infrastructure is targeted. “NATO is committed to deter and defend against hybrid attacks,” he said, the WSJ noted. “Any deliberate attack against Allies’ critical infrastructure would be met with a united and determined response.” The outlet continued: At a NATO meeting Wednesday evening, Danish officials said the pipelines were damaged by several explosions Monday with the force of 500 kilograms of TNT (about 1,100 pounds), officials familiar with the discussions said. Swedish and Danish authorities said Thursday that a total of four leaks—two in the waters of each country—had been verified. The Swedish Coast Guard said the fourth leak—the second in Swedish waters-—was discovered earlier this week around the same time as the first. The second leak is smaller, and emissions from that leak are weakening, according to the agency’s ongoing surveillance of the site. The Biden regime on Thursday vehemently denied that it had anything to do with the sabotage, though Joe Biden and State Department official Victoria Nuland had both vowed to 'take out' the pipeline if Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. "No evidence or indication? You mean other than @UnderSecStateP and @POTUS specifically saying in advance that they would not allow the Nord Stream pipeline to go through if Russia invaded Ukraine?" another user tweeted along with a video clip of State Dept. official Victoria Neuland appearing to threaten destruction of the pipelines if Russia attacked Ukraine. “This is the president who has declared climate change the most pressing emergency in the history of the world. This is the man who lectures you about using a woodstove or driving an SUV because of its emissions,” Fox News host Tucker Carlson said earlier this week after playing clips of Biden and Nuland making their threats. “This is the guy who spent billions trying to mitigate cow flatulence because methane. Would that guy really blow up a methane pipeline in the middle of the Baltic Sea? It was hard to imagine.” “That would be an unimaginably reckless act. That would be the kind of thing you would do if you wanted to start a nuclear war. It would be insane. And yet in retrospect, it’s obvious they were thinking about this because Joe Biden wasn’t the only person to suggest it," he added. WATCH: Meanwhile, a new Polish pipeline bringing Norwegian natural gas to the continent via Denmark is expected to begin operations sooner than its expected November launch date. Probably just a coincidence. Sources include: WSJ.com BizPacReview.com NotesFromPoland.com
