The military documents recently leaked online have revealed America's dirty secret: It has been spying on both its allies and enemies. News commentator and podcaster Scott Goulet believes this could complicate U.S. relations with its allies. While this may not be surprising to officials of allied nations, bringing it out in the open could still damage U.S. relations with key countries. "What secrets have been leaked in the recent 'worst leak' of the decade? These secrets revolve around the war in Ukraine," he said during the April 24 edition the "Front Page with Scott Goulet" podcast. He noted that the leaks "might have changed the course of the war." Goulet added that the content of the leaked documents was not only limited to intelligence from the U.S and from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It also included secrets from Egypt and China, which have been secretly supporting Russia. Aside from these, the leaked documents indicated the timing of Russian attacks and the location of specific targets in aid of Ukraine. They also focused on the struggles of Kyiv's forces, which served as a grim warning. According to the documents, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are expected to run out of S-300 missiles and other long-range anti-aircraft missiles by mid-April. By May 23, Ukraine will have fewer air defense systems to protect its frontline troops – threatening the outcome of its ground war with Moscow. If air defense systems are not bolstered at the soonest, Kyiv will be in danger. "The documents prove that the U.S. is also spying on Ukraine's top military and political leaders in order to keep tabs on Ukraine's combat strategy," Goulet remarked. He added that the leaks could potentially damage Kyiv and give Moscow the opportunity to cut off sources of information. Leak could curb intelligence sharing

Goulet mentioned that after reviewing the documents, a senior Western intelligence official said the release of the material was painful and suggested that it could curb intelligence sharing. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) of the House Intelligence Committee said he expects Biden administration officials to brief lawmakers on the issue when Congress resumes its session. Goulet also stated that while the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has moved to identify the source of the leaks, a senior U.S. official said tracing the original source of the leaks can be difficult. The said official noted that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of U.S. military and government officials who have security clearance needed to access these documents. The podcast host also mentioned another leaked document stating that a Russian fighter jet nearly shot down a British reconnaissance aircraft last year. British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace blamed the incident on a technical fault. According to Goulet, the incident underscored the balance that Western military officials are trying to maintain. The news commentator also said NATO allies have tried to help Ukraine's military and gathered information about the war without getting directly involved in the conflict with Russia. The U.S. and its allies have said they support Ukraine, but they are not directly at war with Russia. In contrast, Russian officials have tried to portray NATO countries as aggressors.
