Israeli tanks opened fire at Gazans waiting for much-needed aid, killing at least 20 and injuring 150. According to the Cradle, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tanks fired in the direction of Gazans lined up to receive humanitarian aid. The incident happened at the Kuwait Roundabout in Gaza City on Jan. 25. Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra confirmed the incident, describing it as a "massacre." Al-Qudra continued that the number of casualties might increase due to the severity of injuries, overwhelming the limited medical capabilities of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, which has been subjected to bombardment and raids by Israeli troops since the start of the conflict. Al-Shifa Hospital, a crucial healthcare facility in Gaza, now operates with only a few doctors, exacerbating the challenges faced in providing medical assistance to the victims. This tragic incident comes on the heels of another devastating attack the day before when the Israeli army targeted a crowded shelter in Gaza's southern city of Khan Younis. The shelter housing thousands of displaced Palestinians was struck by an Israeli tank shell, causing significant casualties. (Related: Gazans held in ‘torture camp’ by Israeli army: Report.) At least 12 people lost their lives in that assault, said Thomas White, a senior official of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). Seventy-five were wounded, including 15 in critical condition. While Tel Aviv has claimed it "currently ruled out" responsibility for the attack, investigations are ongoing. The Israeli military has withdrawn some forces from Gaza, following advice from the U.S. to minimize harm to civilians. However, clashes persist throughout Gaza, including the north, where Israel alleges that Hamas has been dismantled. In the southern region, particularly in Khan Yunis, heavy clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian resistance fighters continue. Israeli warplanes conduct daily carpet bombing campaigns, intensifying the humanitarian crisis.

UN condemns attack on shelter

Video footage verified by Reuters depicted hundreds of people fleeing amid chaos and gunfire in Gaza City's al-Zeitoun neighborhood. CBS News, however, couldn't independently verify the information from the ministry, which doesn't distinguish between civilian and combatant deaths. The Israeli military stated that it is investigating the incident. Gaza City, the primary focus of Israel's offensive against Hamas, has seen intense fighting. The IDF claimed that militants were mostly driven from the city, and recent operations have centered around Khan Younis, further south. UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini condemned the attack, emphasizing that the compound was clearly marked as a U.N. facility. The Israeli army is currently the only force known to operate tanks in the Gaza Strip. The U.S. also criticized the bombardment, emphasizing the protection of civilians, U.N. facilities, and humanitarian workers. In Khan Younis, Israel's ongoing assault has even placed the city's hospitals under siege. Health officials reported over 50 civilian deaths in the preceding 24 hours, pushing the overall Palestinian death toll in Gaza to almost 26,000 since the conflict began. White highlighted the failure to uphold international humanitarian law principles and called for measures to protect civilians. Hospitals in Khan Younis face encirclement, leaving staff, patients and displaced individuals trapped. Visit IsraelCollapse.com for more stories about the ongoing conflict in Israel.
