An overwhelming majority of Americans deem President Joe Biden too old for a second term, according to the results of a recent survey. The survey by ABC News and Ipsos polled 528 adults aged 18 and up. It found that 86 percent of Americans think the 81-year-old Biden is too old to serve another term as president. Breaking down that number, it includes 59 percent of respondents who think both he and 77-year-old former President Donald Trump are too old and 27 percent who think only Biden is too old to run. Only a mere 35 percent of Republican respondents think Trump is too old to seek another term. However, 73 percent of Democrats think Biden should hang up his boots for good. Meanwhile, 91 percent of independents believe the incumbent is too old to serve. The recent poll results follow a September poll by ABC News and the Washington Post. According to this survey, 74 percent think Biden is too old for a second term – compared to only 49 percent saying Trump is too old. The ABC/Ipsos poll also found that more Americans trust Trump to handle certain key issues better. For the issue of illegal immigration and border security, 44 percent trust the former president compared to only 26 percent for Biden. The sentiment was the same for other issues such as the handling of crime (41 percent for Trump to Biden's 28 percent), the economy (43 percent for Trump to Biden's 31 percent) and inflation (41 percent for Trump to Biden's 31 percent). The same poll also asked respondents whether or not Trump should have immunity from criminal prosecution for actions he took while president. Roughly 66 percent say he shouldn't, echoing the recent ruling of a federal appeals court over the matter. However, the prosecutions against the former president appear to be politically motivated and seek to undermine his potential return to the White House. The writing's on the wall: Biden has to call it quits

Calls for Biden to quit seeking a second term have been growing, with a report by Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Hur reinforcing these demands. According to the report, the chief executive possesses "diminished faculties" and "faulty memory" – rendering him incapable of carrying out the responsibilities the U.S. presidency entails. Several surveys from different pollsters also attested to Biden's old age and incapacity to serve as president. One poll done by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) involving 1,500 respondents found that 73 percent consider him too old for a second term. In contrast, only 47 percent found Trump too old to run. The WSJ survey also asked respondents about Biden's mental capacity, with only 36 percent of respondents deeming him mentally fit for the presidency. While 42 percent of respondents said they approve of how Biden does his work, 57 percent – almost three in five – disapprove. "If this race is about personality and temperament, then Biden has an advantage. [But] if this race is about policies and performance, then Trump has the advantage," said Tony Fabrizio, a Republican pollster who helped conduct the survey. Meanwhile, another poll from the Daily Mail and JL Partners that surveyed 1,000 Americans found a similar trend. Roughly three of four respondents – 71 percent – believe Biden is too old for another four years at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The same sentiment was visible throughout age groups, with respondents aged 18 and up overwhelmingly deemed the president overage. Along party lines, 94 percent of Republicans said he is too old for the job and 71 percent of independents felt the same about Biden. "There are few things that unite American voters, but there is one: The belief that Biden is too old to be president," remarked JL Partners co-founder James Johnson. "Decisive margins across all age groups, ethnic groups and political parties agree with the sentiment. Though [Biden] managed to avoid his age becoming a pivotal issue in 2020, it looks set to be the defining hesitation in voters' minds [in the coming 2024 elections]."
