Vice President Kamala Harris and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) have started negotiating terms for a vice presidential debate shortly after Vance was tapped by former President Donald Trump to be his running mate. Vance, who started as a Trump critic before the 2016 presidential campaign, has now become one of his most ardent supporters. The 39-year-old senator's unwavering defense of the former president, commitment to conservative values and positions on controversial topics have solidified his standing within the Republican Party. Harris, on the other hand, also navigated a challenging relationship with President Joe Biden. During her bid for the Democratic nomination in 2020, she called out Biden for his past opposition to federal busing policies. (Related: Trump names J.D. Now that they already secured the vice-presidential nomination with their own parties, anonymous sources claimed that Harris left a congratulatory voicemail for Vance on July 15 and urged him to accept the CBS News debate. The next day, Vance returned the call and the two exchanged pleasantries with their desire to debate but did not discuss specifics. Initially, Harris has agreed to participate in a debate on CBS News on either July 23 or August 13. Trump had also previously agreed to these dates or one later in the calendar on behalf of his then-unnamed running mate. However, Trump specified that the debate should be hosted by Fox News, a condition that the Biden team rejected. "Vice President Harris is prepared to debate J.D. Vance," Biden campaign spokesman TJ Ducklo said after Vance was added to the GOP ticket. "We have accepted the proposal from CBS News – I think as folks are aware – to participate in that debate, and we feel very good." Now that Trump has officially selected Vance, the public assumes that there has been little progress in resolving the disagreements over the debate's network partner and format. "Obviously, we want to debate Vice President Harris because it's important for the American people to see the contrast," Vance said in a recent appearance on Newsmax.

Lawmakers anticipate fiery vice presidential debate as election nears

Lawmakers from both parties are eager to see the two candidates face off as the 2024 presidential race heats up. "I want a front-row seat. I'm not going to watch it on TV, I want a front-row seat," said Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL). "He's one of the best guys on his feet talking about a subject. He puts a lot of time and effort into things. Smart, but he also does his work. He just doesn't take it for granted about what he's going to talk about." Sen. John Thune (R-SD) echoed Tuberville's enthusiasm and expressed his confidence in Vance's abilities. "In these debates with Kamala Harris, it's going to be fun to watch, because I think he is very talented. Good on his feet, and I think he'll be a really strong spokesperson for President Trump on his team," he said. On the Democratic side, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is confident in Harris' debating skills. "I've known her for nearly 15 years while she's been in every kind of fight on behalf of working families," Warren said. "I’m looking forward to this debate." Watch Ivan Raiklin warn Dan Happel of a cover-up that will follow a steal of the 2024 election on the Brighteon.TV program "Connecting The Dots."
