A plane carrying U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) was forced to make an emergency landing minutes after it took off from Milwaukee on Aug. 16 due to a door malfunction. Taylor Van Kirk, a spokeswoman for the Republican vice presidential nominee's campaign, confirmed the incident in a statement. She disclosed that the campaign's 22-year-old Boeing 737-86J aircraft, dubbed Trump Force Two, was the plane involved. Van Kirk said Trump Force Two was en route to Cincinnati. However, approximately four minutes after taking off from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, the pilot detected an issue with the door seal. The pilot advised the passengers – including the senator, his wife Usha, a team of advisers, Secret Service agents and journalists – to fasten their seatbelts for an immediate return to the airport. (Related: Homeland Security agent posing as Secret Service spotted during J.D. Vance rally in Detroit.) Airport officials reported that the aircraft landed at approximately 1:30 p.m. local time. After landing, the aircraft remained on the tarmac for under an hour. While the plane taxied normally and no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, the pilot apologized for the incident – acknowledging the "elevated heart rates" caused by the emergency. "After declaring an emergency, Trump Force Two returned to Milwaukee. As soon as the issue was resolved, the plane returned to its originally planned flight," she continued. The plane then continued to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, located in Vance's home state of Ohio, without further incident.

Trump also experienced mechanical issue with Trump Force Two

This incident marks the second mechanical issue involving the two-decade-old Trump Force Two aircraft within a week. On Aug. 9, the same plane had to divert former President Donald Trump to Billings, Montana, due to a mechanical issue. The plane was originally scheduled to land in Bozeman that day but touched down in Billings, 142 miles to the east, instead. According to Jenny Mockel, administrative assistant at Billings Logan International Airport, Trump was en route to Bozeman for a Friday night rally in support of Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, who is challenging Democratic Sen. Jon Tester. Due to the malfunction, Trump continued to Bozeman via private jet and landed there safely as per a video posted on his Truth Social. "I just landed in a really beautiful place in Montana, so beautiful flying over and you just look down and that's the way it's supposed to be," he said. "We have a very high rating in Montana, we have a lot of popularity. I like them, they like me, but I'm here to do some fundraisers and most importantly to support Tim Sheehy who's running for the U.S. Senate and we think he's gonna do really well. We're gonna have a rally and it'll be a lot of fun." VoteRepublican.news has more stories related to the campaign of Republican candidates Trump and Vance.
